In our post on March 31st we talked about the Goldfinch changes color for the season. Thought you might like to see a photograph of one of the males in his new coat. They come for breakfast every morning about the same time as our guests come down to The Morning Room for Breakfast. It’s great entertainment for all of us.

We saw the Tufted Titmouse, Carolina Chicadee White-breasted Nuthatch, Carolina Wren, Eastern Towhee (who passes through each year), Chipping Sparrow, White-throated Sparrow, White-crowned Sparrow, Dark-eyed Junco, House Sparrow, House Finch, American Goldfinch, Northern Cardinal, Red-bellied Woodpecker, Downy Woodpecker, Blue Jay and Mourning Dove. The entire patio is lined with Forsythia Bushes which is one of the first spring shrubs to bloom a vibrant yellow every year. Both the birds and the Forsythia reach their full color at about the same time. It looks like we have flying Forsythia in the garden patio for several weeks each spring. Then the Goldfinches move on to do their thing and return in the fall to settle in to spend their winter hiatus with us once again. December 24, 2009Eureka Springs Gardens Eureka Springs - Grotto Springs at Christmas Time around the holidays is so precious. We’ve lived in Eureka Springs now for seven years and there are so many things we have never taken the time to do. Tonight I took time to drive around the Historic Loop and view the Christmas decorations. Outstanding! Many of our visitors to the Inn at Rose Hall comment about how pretty the gardens are here in Eureka Springs. It doesn’t matter if it is spring, summer, fall or winter, they are outstanding. Our very creative city gardener, DonE Allen, has outdone himself this fall and winter. He has created arrangements in the bird baths at each of the major springs and the entrance parkway to our village that are spectacular. And it’s done on a shoestring with DonE collecting treasures all year to spray paint and glitter. Make a point of looking at this man’s masterpieces the next time you are here in Eureka Springs.
